Job Description;

Providing a Sunday Morning Experience for students aged 4yrs to 12yrs. Engage with students in occasional activities such as day time or evening activities and be available for kids camp in the summer. Our church does a big fundraiser 3 times per year for our kids department and this responsibility falls in

the department of the kids pastor. (We do have lots of help with this fundraiser, but coordination and attendance from the Children's Pastor would be greatly appreciated.) The youth and children's pastor work closely together to ensure a smooth transition from children's to youth. This would include joint activities for all students, collaboration on the bus routes and drivers and any other opportunities that may arise.

This position would also include filling in for Pastor Kevin on an occasional Wednesday night for Bible Study in his absence. Some computer and sound knowledge would be helpful but is not required.

Youth Pastor, Part-Time

Church/Pastor Information: 

Brent has been lead pastor for 3 years. He was a youth pastor for 22 years at 3 different churches. The longest was 14 years at Tuxedo A/G in Bartlesville, OK. Brent is married and has a young adult daughter. Brent is full time at The Place as lead pastor.

Our church is a rebirth. Pastor Gary Bohanon launched it in 2018 after it shut down in 2017. The church bought 10 acres of land and is looking forward to building a new, bigger building in the next few years. Pastor Gary brought Brent and Jennifer Logsdon down in 2022. They served under Pastor Gary for one year and were appointed as lead pastors to the church in 2023. The church is overseen by the OKAG and 3 overseers. Rob McClure of the Bridge in Mustang, Jamie Austin of Woodlake A/G in Tulsa, and Matt Nelson of City Church in Tulsa. Brent is appointed yearly by the OKAG. 

We have 4 amazing trustees who are on the board. Rick Shoffstall as Secretary/Treasurer, Tim Kilkenny as trustee, Eddie Loomis as trustee, and Rick Pipkin as trustee.

Our church has a weekly outreach to an adult male drug recovery center called Firstep. We have a van that picks men up from there every Sunday morning for service and these men are part of us .We run a clothes closet/pantry ministry for these men as well.  We also do meals once a quarter out at Firstep for all the men. 

The pastor has a weekly outreach to the local nursing home and once a month, the first Sunday of the month, the church holds a church service at the nursing home after our own service. We also do an outreach yearly at the local street fair called May Daze and we give out hundreds of bottles of water and pray with dozens of people who come by.

Key Responsibilities

Our youth group is small but has potential. Several current students are great at bringing their friends. Our new youth pastor will teach a Sunday School class on Sunday mornings and help the lead pastor with announcements and other up front things. He/she will occasionally fill the pulpit on Sundays when the pastor is gone for vacation. He/she will have Wednesday night service/Bible study for students. As a part time youth pastor I don't expect full time hours but I hope for them to engage with students outside of church service hours when possible.

I would hope, but not require, this youth pastor to take the students to youth camp, if at all possible. But I understand this is not always possible to someone who is bi-vocational.

Leadership and Work Environment:

Our Senior Pastor served in youth ministry for 21 years, including six years as Youth Pastor at Okmulgee First Assembly, during which the youth ministry grew from just a handful of students to more than 100.

Because of that experience, our philosophy is to give the Youth Pastor room to lead. We are looking for someone with ideas, initiative, and a willingness to build. You will have significant freedom to develop the

ministry, create events, pursue outreach opportunities, and shape the youth ministry around your gifts and the needs of our community.

We care much more about fruitful ministry, relationships, and discipleship than keeping traditional office hours.

Compensation and Housing:

This is primarily envisioned as a part-time or bivocational position, although we are willing to discuss the structure with the right candidate.

Compensation is negotiable based on experience, availability, and the scope of the position.

Church-provided housing is available as part of the compensation package. The home is located immediately next to the church and is a large, well-maintained two-story 1920s home with approximately five bedrooms and two bathrooms, a full wraparound porch, fenced backyard, detached garage, partial basement, and unfinished attic space. The resident would be responsible for electricity.

For a candidate who does not need housing, other compensation arrangements may be discussed.

Church/Pastor Information: 

Okmulgee First Assembly of God is looking for a Youth Pastor who has a heart for students and a desire to build.

This is a unique opportunity for someone who would rather help create a ministry than simply inherit an existing program. Our current youth ministry is small, but we have a strong group of younger students coming behind them and believe this is the right time to begin building for the future.

Our church averages approximately 100–120 in Sunday attendance and has exceptional facilities for youth ministry, including a large gymnasium with a stage, excellent sound and video equipment, classrooms, and plenty of room to create, host events, and grow.

The Youth Pastor’s primary responsibility will be youth ministry. We are not looking for someone to fill several unrelated staff positions. If a candidate has additional gifts they would like to use in Sunday services or other areas of church life, there will certainly be opportunities, but those are not requirements of the position.

We are looking for someone who:

• Loves students and has a passion for helping them develop a genuine relationship with Christ.

• Has a heart for discipleship, outreach, and reaching students who are not currently connected to church.

• Is willing to invest in younger students who will become part of the youth ministry in the coming years.

• Is self-motivated and creative.

• Can recruit, develop, and work with adult volunteers as the ministry grows.

• Wants freedom to lead rather than simply maintain an existing program.

• Works well with church leadership while taking ownership of the ministry.

We are open to candidates with different levels of experience and at different stages of ministry. Assemblies of God credentials are preferred but are not required for the right candidate. We are willing to help a qualified candidate pursue credentials and assist with the process and associated expenses.
