Credential Requirements

  • The following qualifications pertain to all applicants for ministerial recognition:

    – Experienced the new birth (John 3:5)

    – Baptism in the Holy Spirit with the initial physical evidence of speaking in other tongues (Acts 2:4)

    – A Divine call to the ministry

    – A blameless Christian life

    – Understanding of and agreement with our doctrinal position as contained in the Statement of Fundamental Truths

    – Working knowledge of the principles, practices and purposes of the Fellowship

    – Loyalty to our constitutional agreements, a cooperative spirit and a readiness to seek and receive the counsel of older brethren

    – Meet the following criteria: interviewed by the District Credentials Committee; pass required exams, and complete equivalent training approved by the General Council

    – Marriage Status. We disapprove of any married persons holding ministerial credentials with the Oklahoma District of the Assemblies of God if either marriage partner has a former companion living. Exceptions may be considered and approved through the Oklahoma District Council and General Council upon submission and approval of the applicable application: (1) Pre conversion; (2) Abandonment of the Believer by the Unbeliever; (3) Spousal Abuse; (4) Domestic Violence; or (5) Annulment or Dissolution

    – Background Reports. A background report is required for each applicant. This report covers criminal and misdemeanor records and a credit history showing any judgments, bankruptcies or collection items. These matters should be discussed and explicitly explained in processing credential applications.

    – Ministers from Other Organizations. The Credentials Committee will consider each applicant on an individual basis.

  • Oklahoma District requires all applicants to be residents of or hold credentials in The District and appear before its credentials committee.

    CERTIFIED

    – Efficient helpers in gospel work who devote a part of their time to valid ministry and Christian service.

    – Completion of required Certified Level Courses.

    – 18 years of age or older.

    – Agreement with and adherence to the 16 Tenants of Faith.

    – Membership in an Assemblies of God church for at least one year.

    – Participate in a valid ministry that requires the applicant to hold credentials.

    LICENSED

    – Those who give clear evidence of a Divine call, desire to devote their lives to preaching the full gospel ministry, and wish to be active in other full-time ministries.

    – Completion of required courses for Certified and Licensed levels.

    – Must be current on tithe to all Assemblies of God offices.

    ORDAINED

    – Those who give proof of their call and maturity qualify for a wide range of leadership responsibilities in the full-time gospel ministry.

    – The completion of the required courses for all levels.

    – Held License credentials for at least two years.

    – Must be at least 23 years of age.

    – Must be current on tithe to all Assemblies of God offices.

  • Students with a Bible or ministries MAJOR (not minor) at an Assemblies of God college or university (including Southwestern Assemblies of God University) will qualify scholastically as follows: two full years for certification; three full years for license; four full years for ordination.

    – Effective Leadership

    – Conflict Management

    – Intermediate Internship

    ORDAINED

    – Prayer and Worship

    – Corinthian Correspondence

    – Pentateuch

    – Poetic Books

    – Preaching in the Contemporary World

    – Church Administration, Finance, and Law

    – Introduction to Assemblies of God Missions

    – Pastoral Ministry

    – Advanced Ministerial Internship

CERTIFIED & LICENSED CREDENTIALING PROCEDURE

  • All Levels must submit a request for a credential application.

    The credential application forms will be e-mailed to you when the request is received. Please include the following with the credential application:

    – Photo – a digital headshot will suffice

    – Copies of your social security card and driver’s license

    – Copy of any Bible school transcripts. Oklahoma School of Ministry (OSOM) transcripts will be provided; and

    – Fee in the amount of $100. (Check made payable to the Oklahoma District Council or pay online. If paid online, please note that it is for the credential fee.)

    Once these forms are received and reviewed, credential exam invite(s) with study guide(s) attached for the required exam(s) for your level will be sent to you.

    Exams for each level:

    – Certified: Bible Knowledge and Doctrine.

    – Upgrade to Licensed from Certified: Polity.

    – Entry Level Licensed: Bible Knowledge, Doctrine and Polity.

    A copy of the application will be provided to the Presbyter of the Section of the church attended. The Presbyter may contact you for either a personal interview or will conduct a telephone interview. Be available for this call.

    OSOM transcripts will be provided after all required courses. Other Bible school transcripts are to be provided with the application.

    Incomplete applications or failure to attend Required Attendance events will be moved to the next applicable scheduled dates.
