“The Oklahoma School of Ministry is a center for leadership development providing basic and continuing education for ministerial students, ministers, and Christian workers. This is accomplished by combining home study, classroom instruction, a student’s relationship with a mentor, and active involvement in ministry,”
H. Franklin Cargill, District Superintendent.
The District School of Ministry is a center for leadership development providing basic and continuing education for ministerial students, ministers, and Christian workers through interactive relational learning and practical experience in a vibrant spiritual atmosphere that provides spiritual formation in the life of each student. The school seeks to provide the student with the highest quality instruction and resources possible. The District School of Ministry uniquely combines home study, classroom instruction, the student’s relationship with a mentor, and active involvement in ministry.
Through the learning experience provided by the school, each student will acquire the knowledge required for credentialing, to build strong values and character, and to develop the practical skills necessary for successful ministry, learning that includes the head, the heart and the mind. The heart of the learning experience takes place in the dynamic classroom relationship between the instructor, student and fellow classmates as sound, practical information is presented. The studies are interactive and energized. The spiritual dynamics are powerful!
The ministries of the school include the courses required for credentialing, ongoing leadership development, and opportunities for ministry and learning experiences. Students completing all the courses offered will meet the educational requirements for his or her level of ministerial credentials set forth by the General Council Bylaws as adopted by the General Presbytery.
GENERAL INFORMATION
The Oklahoma School of Ministry is a vital support to the ministry endeavors of churches and pastors. Knowledge gleaned from the classroom experience becomes a valuable tool that the Holy Spirit can use to further the purposes of God. Clergy and laypersons who understand not only “what to do” but “why to do it” will be far more effective than those who “just do it.”
Oklahoma School of Ministry integrates spiritual formation, relationship building, and academic achievement to prove a unique learning experience. Students not only acquire knowledge necessary for obtaining ministerial credentials, but also develop character and skills essential for effective ministry.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
The Oklahoma School of Ministry exists to provide training for those sensing a call to ministry, whether as credentialed ministers of the Assemblies of God, or equipped laypersons within the local church. The school seeks to promote a unified purpose for ministry within the Fellowship, providing doctrinal and practical instruction based upon common core values and shared ministry goals.
The Oklahoma School of Ministry subscribes fully to the Statement of Fundamental Truths of the Assemblies of God, and commits itself to proclaim and support the principals and polity of the Assemblies of God.
STRUCTURE
Classes are conducted once a month, nine times a year. Three courses will be offered each month, one for each corresponding credential level (certified, licensed, and Ordained). Students will participate in 4 hours of classroom interaction and discussion. A final exam is taken at the end of the final session.
Prior to class, each student is required to work through the course text book and student packet. A minimum of 20 hours of preparatory work is necessary. With the weekly huddles of 6 hours and 4 hours of review on game day, students will have invested 30 hours per course.
The classroom instruction provides an overview of the material, practical applications, and opportunity for questions and discussion. Facilitators use personal experience and a variety of teaching methods.
Facilitators are limited to ordained ministers and college professors. Faculty members become natural mentors as they build relationships and share experiences with students. The District Presbytery Board will be advisors and are available to provide accountability and guidance for the students.
